Homestead Exemption CAP vs Assessed Value Increases

On Homestead Properties, the assessed value increases of 10% per year are mandatory per Texas Property Tax Code 23.23 until the assessed value is equal to market value. Texas Property Tax Code can ONLY be changed by Texas Legislature.  Click here for more information

Requirements:
Qualifying Exemptions: Residential Homestead – Disabled Person – Age 65 or Older (or Surviving Spouse) – 100% Disabled Veteran (or Surviving Spouse) – Surviving Spouse of Armed Services Member Killed in Action – Surviving Spouse of First Responder Killed in the line of Duty – Donated Residence of Partially Disabled Veteran (or Surviving Spouse)
Must have: Updated Drivers License or Texas ID – Disabled Person: Social Security Admin letter or A&B Card – Disabled Vet:  CURRENT OR RECENTLY RECEIVED Awards letter from VA

***Note: options MAY be available, if filing after April 30th – Please file an application, the CAD will provide any legislative remedies, once approved***
